About

In 2000, dancer and choreographer Gilles VERIEPE founded his company CIE DK59 in Dunkirk, before relocating to Gentilly in the Paris region in 2016.

Thanks to numerous collaborations, the company’s repertoire of some twenty creations is characterized by a wide variety of formats, a solid aesthetic and a clear coherence of choreographic writing, and is recognized in the contemporary dance creation landscape.

Gilles was artist-in-residence at the Théâtre des Bergeries in Noisy le Sec (93). He was previously associate artist at Théâtre de Rungis, and previously at La Briqueterie CDC du Val de Marne (2012-2015).

He defines himself as a writer of dance, for he conceives his choreographies as one weaves a text. His writing is corporeal: it is first carried in the choreographer’s own body, then passed on to the dancers, who retain, through their interpretation, a great deal of freedom to embody this primary substance.

Some of the works composed with artists from different horizons: a stage director (L’Histoire du soldat), a writer (L’architecture du hasard), a photographer (Petite anatomie), a digital videographer (E-scape and Kube), acrobats (Le Carnaval de Saëns, Si’i), opera singers (Everglade), classical dancers (Don Quichotte, Le carnaval de Saëns).

Gilles complements his art with numerous cultural and educational activities, which he enjoys giving enormously.
