The piece

Gilles Verièpe revisits Ravel's powerful, hypnotic score, turning choreographic references upside down to share the vitality and joy that the piece instantly triggers within him. In this playful duet, they rediscover with Yulia Zhabina the gesture of childhood, that of the futile yet essential game that allows us to shape our world, to overcome our fears, to put joy, lightness and ease in its place. It all starts with a Tik Tok, followed by joyful little sequences of jibes and grumbles, sirtaki, waltz, jazz and Rabbi Jacob's famous Hasidic dance. These are recognizable, popular dances, part of the collective unconscious, and instinctively make you want to join in. But Gilles builds his story, unfolds his universe, sprinkles his choreography with playground movements, hopscotch or bungee jumping, and lights up the game, sparking the dynamic. Surprise, a touch of nostalgia, a few grotesque and grating figures appear, a nod to Buto. Dance is first and foremost a palette of emotions to explore, a role-playing game where anything is possible. The music rewinds, an eternal ritornello, taking us back to square one. The audience participates as one body, entering into a symbiotic relationship with the dancers, because all these expressions are about sharing and generosity.

The Bolero is beautiful. Ravel's music is irresistible, so we're off to see this duet.
