Following the international success of WE LOVE ARABS, Hillel Kogan presents his new show THISISPAIN as a tourist from Israeli contemporary dance who visits the world of flamenco. He confronts the codes and discipline of this dance with his experience, inventiveness and freedom as an artist of today. In this provocative and humorous duet with Mijal Natan - a flamenco dancer - they expose dance not only as an artistic language, but also as a place for debate and the re-construction of meaning, a fluid conversation between style, culture and identity. A mise en abyme that brings us back to the phrase of queer theorist Judith Butler: “identity is not an essence but a performance”, and to this end, Hillel wants to “perform” Spanish.
